Wildflower Remedies & Subtle Ecologies
Verditer is an extension of my art practice that emerged beginning in 2017 from an inquiry into the relationship between the subtle body and invisible patterns in nature. This work is a container for expanded listening that informs my current material practice and approach as a painter. Through it I explore the imaginal correspondences between the somatic, emotional and ecological.
A note about the botanical elements in some of my work:
I approach colour a bit like sound in my paintings, constructing harmonic or playful relationships in distinct material layers. Some of the initial layers include more subtle elements like water prepared homeopathically with a particular wildflower or mineral, a method that has emerged in recent years, informed by my research and contemplative practice with local plants (see above). In my paintings, these layers can act like a subtle experimental structure or feeling tone for subsequent colour and material decisions. They help me set an intention for my attention to be more spacious or specifically attuned while making the work.
